PHP 8.6: The Features That Matter and What Can Break When You Upgrade
My short take: PHP 8.6 is a release with one language feature that changes how everyday code reads — partial function application — plus a handful of small, well-designed additions and a long list of tightened edges.

Authentication vs Authorization in Laravel: What’s the Difference?
Once this becomes clear, Laravel’s auth middleware, Gates, Policies, Sanctum, and permission systems all start fitting together naturally.

Tutorials and Talks

Laravel Fake Assertions Now Accept Property Arrays
Checking which job was pushed, or which event or notification was sent, usually means writing a callback that compares each property. Starting in Laravel 13.35, the Queue, Bus, Event, and Notification fakes accept an array of expected property values in place of that callback.

Create complex UI with a class library in PHP
In the PHP ecosystem, there are many attempts to build application UIs using a class library.

'There Has Been a Critical Error on This Website' in WordPress: How to Fix It
"There has been a critical error on this website" means PHP hit a fatal error, almost always right after a plugin, theme or PHP version update.

Create complex UI with a class library in PHP
Despite the rise of JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular, building the UI on the backend is still a common feature in many web applications.

A 15-line middleware and one database column: roles without the ceremony
Every SaaS needs roles. The tutorial answer is a roles table, a permissions table, two pivot tables, a seeder for each, and a policy class before you've written a single feature. For an indie-scale app with two roles — admin and user — I went the other way: one string column and a 15-line middleware. Here is the whole thing, and why it's enough.

Imagine you are building a SaaS application. One company signs up. Then another company signs up. Then another. All of them use the same application, but their data must remain completely separate.

How to Add Multiple Languages to Laravel + Inertia.js Without Managing Translations Twice
Laravel has always made localization fairly straightforward. You create your language files, define translation keys, and use Laravel’s __() helper wherever you need translated text.

This week, we published new articles about upcoming Symfony 8.2 features, including targeted Cache-Control, relative ordering for listeners and services, the compiled event dispatcher, the three new validation constraints, and single-use signed URLs. This Week In PHP Internals | Oct 8, 2026
PHP's default password hash only reads the first 72 bytes of your password, and last week's plan to make it refuse anything longer split the list over backward compatibility. This week Sjoerd Langkemper set that RFC aside and proposed PASSWORD_BCRYPT_SHA256 instead: opt-in, nothing breaks, and borrowed from Python's Passlib. Plus: two RFCs back in voting (ending PEAR's endorsement, and IntlRelativeDateTimeFormatter), Time\Instant's answer on JSON, Io\Terminal v0.4 without its interfaces, Matthieu Napoli's single binary for the CLI and FPM, a safety review of Jakub Zelenka's IO Hooks, and Karoly Negyesi's implements … by.

SQL Essentials: The Core Concepts Every Software Developer Should Know
You don’t need to memorize hundreds of SQL commands to become a good developer. But you should understand the fundamentals and know how to use them efficiently.

Patching Elementor Pro doesn't remove the webshell. Check before you close the ticket.
Elementor shipped the fix for CVE-2026-32475 on August 19. Attackers started exploiting it the same day, and Wordfence blocked more than 190,000 attempts in the first five days. If your site ran Elementor Pro 4.2.1 or earlier during that window, updating is the second thing to do. The first is finding out whether someone got there before you.

Thinking in Yii3: How the Framework Fits Together
If you come from Yii2, the first thing you'll look for in Yii3 is Yii::$app. It isn't there. There's no global application object, no base Controller with a dozen magic properties, and no components array.

My plugin passed every check. It still didn't work.
We built a WordPress plugin. The idea was simple: you publish a post on your blog, and a couple of minutes later an announcement goes out to your social networks automatically. Headline, image, link. About two thousand lines of code. A small project, I thought.
